Winter Solstice Celebration of Light
Sunday,  December 19th
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
"There are two ways of spreading light: To be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." Edith Wharton

Midwinter's day has been an important time for celebration throughout the ages. On this shortest day of the year, the sun is at its lowest and weakest, a pivot point from which the light will grow stronger and brighter. This is the turning point of the year.

Join PranaShanti Owner, Devinder Kaur, and friends from different spiritual and devotional paths for a Winter Solstice Celebration to welcome the light!

•Buddhist - Kelsang Rabjor, Joyful Land Buddhist Centre
•Christian - Father Jack Lau, Galilee Retreat Centre
•Aboriginal - Cindy Gaudet, Metis woman, Global Heartbeat
•Yogic/Sikh - Devinder Kaur, Yoga Teacher

Experience the healing qualities of meditation, prayer, blessing and song from these sacred and spritual traditions. Be surrounded by joy, peace and upliftment in the soothing and restful glow of candlelight.

Warming spiced mulled apple juice and a special Winter Solstice dessert buffet with decadent chocolate fountain, fresh fruit and holiday treats served afterwards.

Cost: $22 per person. Proceeds donated to the Food Bank.  Children's Winter Solstice Celebration with Jmaie Reardon occurs at the same time with a special program for ages 3 to 8.  $11.00 per child.

Everyone welcome! Bring a meditation cushion/pillow and show up early! Chair seating available. Please call ahead to reserve a chair, if needed. Yoga mats not required.

Sign Up Online or call PranaShanti at 613-761-9642 (YOGA) to reserve your space.

Crystal Bowl and Planet Gong Concert with David Hickey Date: Sat 10/30/2010 at 8PM

Crystal Bowl and Planet Gong Concert
with David Hickey
Saturday, October 30, 2010
8:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Join David Hickey for an incredible evening. Crystal Journey, an improvised sound journey with Paiste Planetary Gongs, Crystal Bowls, Santoor and Vibraphone.
Two sets of incredible music that allows the listener to be fully immersed with their spirit.

A few words from David:
Based in Mount Hope, Ontario, I perform with Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls, 15-20 of them. Each produces a pure note or tone, the purest there is. You have to hear them to believe it. I play them in combination with a Vibraphone, Santoor and 8-18 Paiste Planet, Symphonic and Sound Creation Gongs. Every gong features a strong fundamental note tuned to represent a natural harmonic series based on the orbital properties of the Sun, the Earth, the Moon and the other planets. It's like having a full orchestra.

I have been touring Canada coast to coast for the past seven years and have performed over 700 shows, having released 7 CDs to date. I have played the Bowls and Gongs accompanied by various musicians as well as with the Winnipeg Chamber Orchestra in June of 2006.

Crystal Journey has dedicated its intention for the music to help raise awareness to our environment and such social causes as Tibet and Burma, raising funds for these and various other charities. Crystal Journey also works with cancer support groups such as Well Spring Calgary. As 2010 unfolds, I am looking forward to taking my music to ever increasing numbers creating conscious awareness across Canada and the Globe with a message of peace. By year's end, Crystal Journey will have performed over 150 concerts.

The intent of the performance is to create soothing, meditative and healing music. Each one of my performances is completely improvised, and unique. The music attracts a full range of listeners. My concerts are in two sets, each lasting an hour in length.

My musical inspirations are, Jerry Garcia, The Grateful Dead, John Lennon, George Harrison, Bob Marley, Miles Davis, and Frederick Chopin to name a few.

Cost:  $25.00 per person. Register early to ensure your space.

Kirtan – a practice of Bhakti Yoga (the Yoga of Devotion) - is a call and response form of singing which is expanding throughout North America as westerners discover its uplifting, healing and joyous effects.

Kirtan is easy to learn and participate in. The lead singer sings simple and beautiful melodies and the crowd responds either by memory or by using lyric sheets provided. Brenda explains, “Singing together– chanting the Divine names – encourages our hearts to open and the beauty of our true beings to shine!”

Canadian Devotional Chant artist, Brenda McMorrow, began her musical career in the early 1990’s as a singer/songwriter. She co-founded the London, Ontario folk/rock band Julia Propeller – a campus radio and CBC favourite – which opened for and shared festival rosters with acts like Ani Difranco and Bruce Cockburn.

Brenda’s rich musical exploration led her from folk to bluegrass to jazz and now - as meditation, yoga and expanding consciousness have become integral parts of her life – her true heart offering is to share her unique blend of original melodies, world beats and sacred Indian devotional chants.

Kirtan with Divya - Saturday, May 15th, 7:30 PM

Join Divya Prabha for a wonderful evening of Kirtan. Kirtan is a practice of Bhakti Yoga (the Yoga of Devotion) - is a call and response form of singing which is expanding throughout North America as westerners discover it’s uplifting, healing and joyous effects.

Chanting is a way of getting in touch with yourself. It's an opening of the heart and letting go of the mind and thoughts. It deepens the channel of grace, and it's a way of being present in the moment.

Divya was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 1971 she underwent a life-altering spiritual awakening which caused her to leave her job at a local university and take up intensive study of Yoga and Yoga philosophy.

She has composed a wealth of chants that are sung around the world, and has made 5 CD's of Sanskrit chanting and one CD of original songs about the spiritual path.

Divya travels the world giving courses and concerts and satsangs, and resides with her husband, artist Michael Fernandes, at her home Shining Bay Retreat, a summer Yoga facility overlooking a quiet ocean cove in East Dover. When not traveling, she leads satsang and offers programs at her Retreat and elsewhere in Nova Scotia.

Cost: $15.00 per person.

Kirtan, Chant and Yoga at the Ottawa Sound Healing Conference

oshc2010_web.jpg
It all began with an OM...
Creation, as the story goes, was vibrated into being through sound. Every atom in our being continues to vibrate, singing the song of our karmas and dharmas. When in resonating with nature, our cells harmonize with the primal sounds of creation. The ancient mystics taught these sounds as mantras and prayers, and brought forth the movements and dances that opened our bodies to these vibrations, so that we can always return to our essential nature. From teacher to disciple, these movement and sound practices were shared, coming to form the practices we know as yoga and meditation. As these sounds where shared in community, music came to be, and the Love that was experienced came through as Kirtan.
The Ottawa Sound Healing Conference invites you to move and sound your heart open. For the Yogi in all of us, this weekend will feature the sonic practices of India.

Enter the Secret Chamber of the Heart through Sacred Sound and Kundalini yoga. Join mysticsJeremy Sills and Tanya Nash as they co-create a soundscape that will help your body mind and heart connect to this place far beyond and deep within. Together we will sit back and lay down, bathing in the healing frequencies of crystal and tibetan singing bowls, readying our bodies for a gentle kundalini yoga practice to root our heart in our body, and our body in the earth.

Kirtan recording artists, The Bhakti Connection, will share their divine bliss through songs of devotion from India and beyond. An established group since 2007, the collective strives to explore in depth both the traditional and more modernized world of Chanting and Devotional music – the result a blissful fusion of sound, voice, intricate and/or simple musical adaptations that are inspiring to the ear and heart; as well as alluring arrangements to unite the body, mind and spirit. Check out their myspace page to taste the sweet nectar of their divine harmonies which dance upon worldly instrumentation.

Goddess Vocal Circle - Invoking the Goddess through Sounds. The many aspects of the Goddess sing the song of the sacred Feminine within us all – an expression of life’s divine play of bountiful love and wild energy. In this sonic meditation, the creative energy of the group will tell the story of the Goddess, enchanting you into feeling your radiance and creative flow.

The circle begins with an opportunity to open the voice, releasing the tensions of the body and mind in a safe sacred space of sisterhood. In this state of openness, we invoke the Goddess energy with ancient sanskrit chants, then let our voices tell our stories and that of our archetypal sisters, carrying us through our journeys into unity and peace.

All lovers of the divine feminine, male and female, are welcome to hold space in silence or share their voice (no singing or musical experience necessary).

These amazing experiences are offered along side sound healing concerts and participatory workshops using contemporary sonic arts and other ancient sound traditions, including performances and workshops by David Hickey, Michael Moon, Barclay McMillan, Ann Marie Boudreau and many more.

Advanced tickets are available by contacting Tanya at sonicmystikama@gmail.com or Maike atsonicspiritottawa@gmail.com. For more information, please visit the Ottawa Sound Healing Conference website at: www.ottawasoundhealingconference.com

~ The 5 elements in sound & movement ~ Crystal & Tibetan Singing Bowls, Drum, and Voice

Beginning in stillness, in silence, introducing the bowls, and inviting the impulse of slow slow slow, breath.....as chimes, and drumming, and melody, we begin to call the soul into carnation....ether, air, fire, water, and earth.....to invite the whole Self into the present moment...giving voice to each element....moving deeper and deeper into the body....sounding the frequencies of the chakras....we then begin to sound our way around the room, with subtle, and gross movements, on the floor, on all fours, standing, swaying, dancing to the Muse, and freeing the creative artist within each of us...

BLISSFUL KIRTAN ~ SUN 11 APR

BLISSFUL KIRTAN

Honour your Self! Celebrate your Self!

You are cordially invited to join us in the inner exploration of the creative power of sound and vibration. Every vowel and every consonant in the sacred chants, as well as the tone and rhythm of the music has its effect upon the mind and body. As they become "refined" by this simple practice, the Self reaches a higher state of perfection and is led to a subtler, divine world of sound and "be"ing where a type of ecstasy can be experienced, a Bliss of happiness and inner peace, which is the Soul's true nature and everyone's birthright.

All voices and instruments are welcome, and no previous kirtan experience is necessary to participate. HARI OM!
