Odissi - Up close and personal is an opportunity to delve into the essence of Indian classical dance, specifically Odissi dance, and show the diversity of the style. Two of the dances that will be presented tell a story related to two commonly known deities of Hinduism: Shiva and Krishna. The two other items are of pure dance, meant to show the grace, flow, and sculpture-like form of Odissi. Indian classical dance is presented theatrically, on stage and in intimate settings as most Indian classical dances were originally temple dances where girls and women would perform these dances as a form of ritual and offering to the Gods and therefore many of the dances are inspired by Hinduism. In India this type of art is often pursued as a path of spirituality.
